How do I enable the wireless in a Cisco Aironet access point?

This is 1200 series Cisco systems AP which is shipped with the wireless disabled, I have only laptop at my disposal. I have tried to communicate with it using it's supplied ethernet cable but either my laptop does not see it or it does not respond. I have the small hand book that comes with it so I do know all the default settings.
