How can you compare Salieri to Iago in 'Othello'?

They don't compare since Salieri is the tragic figure of the play which is about him, not about Mozart. It is just that Mozart is so compelling a dramatic character that it is easy to become focused on him instead of on Salieri and the real question of the play.
