The Missing of Civilization Time Frames?

The destruction of these mighty and wondrous civilizations left any survivors desolate and nearly helpless. it became more important to find shelter and food than to lament what had been lost. Everything was forgotten even the oral traditions came to be little more than campfire tales to amuse the small children.
