What about possible sulfur released by the Great Flood?
I'm not sure if you're taking the position of trying to debunk the Great Flood theory or whether you're trying to actually get at some rational explanation or whether you're trolling, but actually you don't really need to put any real thought into it to debunk it. The myth (and it is a myth) of the Great Flood originated at least a thousand years before Solomon (even long, long before Abraham) and was part of a pagan (yes, pagan) semi-nonsensical Sumerian tale called the Epic of Gilgamesh. The name Noah was not the same, but most Biblical scholars now agree that it was almost certainly the source for the account in Genesis. I truly don't know why people waste time thinking about it. You don't need to believe every word of Genesis to be a sincere (and educated) Christian, Jew or Muslim.
